Who We Are

Dr. Cathleen Burns, RDN, LDN

Registered Dietitian

A passion for cooking and the thrill of creating food for enjoyment ignited a spark to launch a remarkable journey that would ultimately land me here.  Enrolling at Johnson & Wales College provided me both the technical skill and the discipline needed to stay focused as I graduated with a B.S. Degree in Culinary Arts and Food Service Management. Opportunity provided me a chance to showcase my new-found skills in the healthcare sector.  Approaching this unique venture with determination to deliver food which was both nutritious and appealing to this special population lead me to understand the connection between food, emotions and wellness. It became my mission to obtain the knowledge that would allow me greater opportunity to support the unique needs of special populations. I returned to Johnson and Wales, completing a B.S in Culinary Nutrition and completed an internship at Marywood University to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. During this internship, I had an exceptional mentor who was extremely knowledgeable in renal disease, upon completion of my program I worked as an apprentice gathering all the information she could provide. I thoroughly enjoyed working with patients inflicted by renal disease and was fascinated by the complexity of the disease and continue to practice in acute and out-patient settings.  Therefore, I returned to school to acquire a deeper understanding of the Pathophysiology of disease obtaining a Master’s Degree in Clinical Nutrition from New York Institute of Technology.   Intuitive by nature I feel connected to my work. However, I felt disheartened by the model of care that I was practicing in and felt that healing required more than just a prescription, it required a deeper understanding of the physical, emotional, spiritual and socioeconomic barriers that disrupt wellness. Shortly, after graduating I suffered the loss of my Dad due to a substandard level of care.  I channeled my energy into seeking further knowledge.  Treating the whole person and finding the core imbalances has always been my passion. Searching for a new direction I found Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH).  Graduating with a Doctorate in Clinical Nutrition with a focus on Integrative health has provided me a foundation to build my dream on. Understanding an individual has unique needs is the message I feel compelled to deliver to health care providers. Working in collaboration with health care professionals will help improve not only health outcomes but Quality of Life. I offer a unique approach acquired through years of education, cultivated by years of practice and a strong desire to achieve these goals. Utilizing a collaborative approach to support individual needs, this is my story and this is my practice. Welcome to integrative health and compassionate practitioners.

Kaitlyn Furtado MS, RDN, LDN

Registered Dietitian

Kaitlyn is a welcome addition to this collaboration. After graduating from D'Youville University in Buffalo, NY in 2022 with her Master's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics she is now accepting new clients and is excited to help make an impact in the healthcare journey of others. She is passionate about GI health, the microbiome, and allergy education. This blend of interests was reflected in her Master's thesis titled "The Relationship Between Multiple Food Allergies and Diet Quality in American Adults" where she conducted research to bring light to this often understudied population. While in school, Kaitlyn was able to gain experience in many fields with her favorite being an outpatient pediatric clinic that focused on the GI health of infants and children to help them and their parents gain the tools they needed to enjoy food while still accommodating for their health needs despite the challenges that faced them.

Other than school, Kaitlyn was a 5-year member of the women's cross country team on campus and has a long history of competitive running. She is an avid believer in Health At Every Size and balancing work, movement, and hobbies in a way that is both stress-free and rewarding. She brings all of these beliefs into her work. Kaitlyn also believes in a collaborative approach to treatment and is excited to join this practice that mirrors her same core values as her.
